Bar-Bu is a small townhouse transformation project. Initially, this was a private club that the owners opened as a socializing space for them and their close friends which soon turned into a community of people with common interests. The house is situated near Aiud’s city center at the border of a socialist neighborhood and the historical city center of Aiud. The concept for this transformation was to keep the ground floor of the house with the initial details which were to be restored and highlight them through the proposal on the upper floor witch is in clear contrast with the ground floor. The upper intervention is a contemporary one with big minimalistic dormer windows that merge the bottom with the top. The biggest opening is towards Aiud’s citadel from the upper living area. The plan was to make the old and new contrast clearly visible. The mansard has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a living area, and the ground floor has a big living area that the owners plan to still occasionally use as a place of meeting for them and their close friends. This project was is a result of a team effort from us and our close collaborators Barbieri Proiect and Marcconstruct which we thank for the common effort through this article and the openness for an atypical intervention from the owner.
