SCIENCE CAMPUS CLUJ COMPETITION

The concept proposal emerges from the desire to connect the proposed architectural solution of the Science campus with the already existing ensemble of CREIC and TEAM through the proposed urban square creating a common space for both CREIC,TEAM and CLAS, FMI and INFOBIONANO4HEALTH. The proposed pedestrian bridge connects both spaces physically and visually, at the same time creating a promenade space for the users to enjoy. The image created in the urban context resembles the function of the ensemble through the created volume emerging from the desire to connect. The proposed space has a more public character around the urban square exposing the processes and results of the creation, through art exhibitions public events, entertainment spaces, restaurants, terraces or even the invitation to understand the process behind the research. The architectural ensemble has two faces: A public face in the area of the urban square and a more private/semi-public space on the other side of pedestrian bridge. The ensemble behind consists of the spaces created for study, research, university life and develops a kind of community-like space that resembles a „small city”.This ensemble contains the buildings for FMI, INFOBIONANO4HEALTH, and other research facilities of CLAS, and also the Student dorms, Canteen and administrative spaces. In the middle of the square we have the Planetarium and Astronomical Observatory, a symbol for thinking towards the future and looking for new, better ways for man-kind evolution. The whole enable is either partially buried of covered in vegetation developing a subtle, environmental friendly and yet iconic solution for the proposed space. The integration of the buildings follows the natural spatial context and connects both building to natural environment, and at the same time the two innovation centers, CREIC, TEAM and CLAS, INFOBIONANO4HEALTH and FMI. The sports base facility is buried in the ground looking only towards the sky and integrating the sports process in the natural context. The spaces of the facility are connected to each other and are at the same time flexible spaces that can easily transform and adapt to new functions.
